Finally made it home last night around 7.30. My four hour layover at O’Hare turned into a seven hour layover. My sleep deprived self didn’t know what to do when I found out my flight was cancelled. So I rescheduled for the first flight out, bought some Advil and water and slept as much as I could sitting up in an airport chair. After all that, I make it home and my large suitcase is still in Chicago (I’m assuming that it’s in Tulsa right now, sitting around the airport). I was going to start the day with some new photographs, but that’s out of the question as the camera is in the bag that I don’t have. Luckily, I have all of my art with me, minus the huge stack of print exchange screenprints. I don’t think I’m ever going to repeat what happened last year (lost my portfolio for a day and a half, which resulted in much freaking out).
Anyway, there will be more later. Please excuse any errors in my writing, I’m still catching up on a week of lost sleep.
I’ve been awake for over twenty-four hours. I have also just gotten home from the Dolphin Building. I wasn’t even rushing to get prints and such done for this morning’s final crit. Slowly curated some prints, handcolored one, and decided to start my print exchange screenprint (finally). I got two colors done on an edition of 60, thank god. I’ll have to finish the other three layers today. Everything will get done. (Can’t forget to pack!)
I know I’ve stumbled upon my true calling when I spend an entire night, sleepless, working on a print and still leave feeling happy. Very very sleepy, but still happy.
I’ve spent six hours in Dolphin today. Mainly reprinting, so there’s nothing new to show. Feels good to work and to be able to see all of the result. Lately I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of prep work or research. I’ll spend three or four hours on something and only have a page of notes or a couple of transparencies. In the next few days though, it’ll all be wrapped up. Speaking of, my concept of time is really warped right now. I’m never sure of what day it is and I definitely don’t feel like I’m going to be home on Saturday. Which reminds me…packing. Oh my god.

Not the best picture, but this is the progress I’ve made with the two plate, two color etching. All of the patches are handcolored watercolor. I’m editioning this tonight (only three) and probably watercoloring it tonight as well. There’s a lot more to show, but I haven’t had the time. I’ll be back in Oklahoma on Saturday (oh my god) and will have a luxurious (haha) five weeks of no school.
Long time no post for a number of reasons. Mainly because I don’t have steady internet (haven’t for a while). It’s also finals and I’ve been sleeping very little and working a whole lot. My camera died before I could get any photos at home, so there’s that. Now that I’m reunited with my battery charger, I should have something up by the end of the week.
I’ve set up an independent study for next semester so I can have a thesis of sorts (graphic design doesn’t have a thesis here, crazy, right?). I’ll be spending the semester making screenprinted posters. I’ve got one actual job for Momentum Tulsa and I’m working on finding another one. Super excited about this, even for the very large editions. (We’ll see how I feel about that when the time comes…)
Also ordered $90 worth of screenprinting supplies, which sounds more extravagant than it actually is. Four items – emulsion, remover, a scoop coater and some hinge clamps. I have no idea how that cost so much. I still have a lot to buy in hardware for the basement, but I figured it would probably be better if I did it in person so I could shop around. I really want to get cracking on this though, no slacking!
I should probably get back to class (I’m waiting for my stop-out varnish to dry, so I can aquatint a plate).
