My right hand occassionally engages in battle with the left. And by that I mean, being right handed has directly led to a lot of left hand injuries. I’ve cut my left hand with a rotary cutter, a large kitchen knife, and the incident to end all incidents – pieces of a porcelain bowl that broke in the sink while I was trying to do dishes. Last night, I added the newest scar to my hand, a little u-shaped slice from a linoleum cutter. Let’s just say I was being impatient and I got what I deserved.

the cut, in a badly taken macro photo.

A light sketch of what I plan to print.

Finished with cutting the first layer. Can’t see the details very well, I wish I had gotten a picture of it all inked up, but I was too concerned with getting it done quickly (see, impatience).

I’ve already started cutting the second layer. The first layer is a dark mustard-y color, even though it rolled up yellow ochre. I wanted the ochre, but oh well. There’s nothing I can do at this point.
I’ve got to print out some mock-ups for graphic design today and finish cutting the second layer of this print. More later!
Watching the VMAs is a completely different experience when you don’t know who half of the people are and you don’t know what the “it” songs are. Alright, so I’m not even really watching. I’m just procrastinating with the TV on at a low volume, my laptop open to Google Reader and my sketchbook at a blank page.
I feel very obligated to work on my graphic design homework (it’s due first), but I’m much more invested and interested in my lino cut for Intaglio/Relief. I drew out a sketch yesterday and I’m getting excited about it. I have a feeling it will look better as an etching or, really, anything that has a wider range of tones. But my assignment is to do a lino cut and I’d like to start on the concept that I’ve been developing.

I feel like I should be doing more.

Part of a watercolor sketch that I backlit and photographed. I like that they look like mold or some sort of organic material. The first one looks a bit landscape-ish. I haven’t been to Digital Photo yet (I have it tonight from 4-10), but it might be interesting to encorporate some of these textures in the work I do for that class. It all depends on what kind of digital photo class this is, you know what I mean? Part of me really wants to drop it because my interest in digital photography (by itself, as a means to create artwork) is very low, but I still want to know the skills to really utilize digital photo with other mediums. I really just need to wait and see.
I have one photo left to make up (for one-a-day) and then tonight’s and I’ll be caught up. I’ll be honest and say that it’s tougher to keep doing this because of classes and because I don’t feel like I can walk around everywhere with my camera without fear of being mugged. It’s pretty terrible how paranoid I feel when I’m here and that’s when I’m not even carrying anything around. Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that I’ve been ridiculously busy and I don’t know if that’s going to lighten up. Long weekend coming up and I’m planning on painting my room to get rid of the oppressing white walls. I’m sure there will be before/after photos of that. At least.

Got to Baltimore on Saturday and am slowly getting settled in. Classes start tomorrow and I’m slightly excited. I have no idea how I’m going to get up so early, but I guess I’ll know sooner rather than later. This semester’s classes – Asian American Literature, Letterpress Printing and Books, Advanced Graphic Design I, Print Survey: Intaglio/Relief, Digital Photo I, History of Modern Design. Full schedule.

#48 more symbolic than I care to admit

#49 crepes at IHOP

#50 suburbia, BK drumset, BK set list
Getting ready to go back to Baltimore for the last time. It’s been hectic trying to see everyone before they leave and packing at the same time. Gotta play a little catch up right now. I went to a great show at the Cain’s Ballroom tonight. Saw Ben Kweller on their “second stage” which is smaller and more intimate. Got some really great video of “Wasted & Ready” that I’m trying to upload to youtube as I type. It’s huge though, I have no idea what the size limits are on youtube.

haha. I especially like, It’s OK to be Neurotic.

The product of an hour at Kaffe Bona. Occasionally, I practice lettering, hoping that I’ll stumble upon a new talent that’ll lead me to the career of my dreams. And to counteract all of the dark photos, something completely light and colorful.

I really love the way headlights illuminate the road, as evidenced by this and this. The one-a-day project is proving to be very useful. It’ll be interesting to see what comes of it when I’m in Baltimore. Yes, I am continuing this project. I’ll probably splurge on a flickr pro account too, seeing as I have Digital Photo I next semester.
